With the school holidays wrapping up this weekend it also signals a chance for us to have a break after some great coaching camps during these winter holidays.
It all started with my SCA camp at Mona Vale on the 10th and 11th. We were scheduled to start on the 9th but withmassive seas on Monday meant we had to postpone. Tuesday and Wednesday brought conditions that were just surfable, still big, but the groms did an amazing job of being positive and productive and took on the swell with courage and determination. Blast Off coach and judge Dustin Atkinson and my daughter Tamarin helped me with the camp and it was sick fun.
The very next day I headed off to the NSW south coast with the Hurley Surf Club. We made stops in Kiama, Ulladulla, and Culburra, and teaming up with Akwa Surf, Zink Surf, Aquatique, Ulladulla Boardriders, Culburra Boardriders, Werri Boardriders and Jones Beach Boardriders. I was on hand at all the sessions to pass on some valuable coaching tips to the groms of the south coast. Their froth levels are incredible, considering the cold water and freezing air temperature.
Finally, we wrapped up the final camp of the program this week with the conclusion of the Avoca camp on Thursday 19th. It was small, but we still had some great conditions for the kids. Friday 20th was unfortunately cancelled due to the flat conditions. So the holidays had it all, with days postponed due to massive surf, cancellation due to flat surf and then a bunch of great fun in between. But that’s why we love our sport right!?
Thanks to all the kids who took part. Next stop the 2018 Hurley BL’s Blast Off presented by Beecraft yeeeew!
