DAY 3 – Every year Blast Off comes with it’s own challenges and this is no exception with this huge swell that has dropped in on the event. The team, surfers and families have done a great job getting the younger kids run and finished early. Being able to run at South Whaley today was great the waves were challenging but the kids were next level and there was some amazing surfing today in 4-6 feet of storm swell.
Contest Director Barton Lynch said “Logan Steinwede literally charged. He got a stand up barrel and won a couple of awards for his performance. There were a lot of kids who we coached a lot before they went out, they were a bit nervous but came back in so pumped.”
“We ran a number of coaching clinics to direct and instruct the kids how to warm up physically and mentally before their heats without doing a warm up surf.”
“It was one of those days that was just wild and woolly and the kids have really stood up and made the best of what they can offer, we’re so proud of them.”
“If we can’t run double banks tomorrow we’ll have to eliminate round 3 and go straight to the semis and finals for all the 12s and 14s divisions but the venue and schedule will be decided in the morning.”
“The vibe this year has been so positive and there have been people that come up to me to say, ‘What you’re doing is really special.’ I think what we’re trying to do and trying to achieve working.”
